Fuggle is always thought of as the classic English aroma hop – delicate, minty, grassy and slightly floral in aroma. It is a traditional hop giving well rounded bitterness and subtle aromas when used for late hopping. Released in 1875 by Richard Fuggle of Brenchley in Kent, from a seedling selected in 1861. British Hops say “It is susceptible to wilt and has been produced in lower volumes in recent years and it is hoped that Wye Hops will make wilt resistant seedlings available by 2015.” We certainly hope so, as Fuggle is the mainstay of many of our brews.
